[4K] Bloody Bouncing Ballistae

I’m Croakperson and this is the deck that worked best for me in week 28 of 2017 in ranked play.

General Information

I used this deck to climb from 3.6K to 4K MMR this week and it is working very well in the current meta. I mainly faced Dagon Monster and this deck is excellent against them. This list is generally very good against decks that have a lot of (small) units, but you can make it work against pretty much every other deck.

Mulligan

Obviously never keep Blue Stripes CommandoWhenever a different Ally with the same Power as this Unit is played, play this Unit from your Deck (1 copy max) and place it on that Ally's row. Whenever you complete a Blue Stripes Commando Trio, create 1 base copy of a Blue Stripes Commando on the bottom of your Deck. and Bloody BaronIf this Unit is in your Deck at the end of the Round, place it on top. Whenever an Enemy is Destroyed during a Round while this Unit is in your Deck, Boost it by 1. .  Other than that keep a wide array of your bronze units and of any of the gold cards.

Cards like Dimeritium BombChoose 3 adjacent Units (can be Golds) and Reset them. If any are Gold, Demote them first. heavily depend on the matchup. Keep it when you expect a lot of boosted units, e.g. against Spell-Dwarfs.

In general you want enough resources to win round one without having to play VillentretenmerthAfter 3 turns, at the start of your turn, Destroy all the Highest Units on the Board. . You should still keep him in your opening hand, because he is crucial in round 3 and otherwise you might not get him at all.

As always, be careful with the third mulligan! If you haven’t blacklisted Bloody BaronIf this Unit is in your Deck at the end of the Round, place it on top. Whenever an Enemy is Destroyed during a Round while this Unit is in your Deck, Boost it by 1. already, for example, don’t push your luck and just skip the third mulligan. Exceptions can be made if you have SarahDeploy: Shuffle a card from your Hand (can be Gold) back into your Deck, then draw the top different card of the same color from your Deck. in hand.

Strategy

Ideally, you want to win round one and in the process kill as many enemy units as possible. In round two you just play everything you don’t need. Make sure you head into the last round with card advantage or at least on equal cards with the opponent starting the round. That way they can’t play around your finisher.

Round 1: Play Yennefer: The ConjurerEvery turn, at the start of your turn, Damage all the Highest Enemies by 1. first if you have her. Then play Kaedweni SergeantDeploy: Boost by 1 this Unit and all Bronze Loyal Units with the same Power in your Hand, Deck or on your side of the Board. Make sure you play around Geralt: IgniDeploy: Destroy all the Highest Units on the opposite row if that row totals 20 or more Power. , because most of your units are going to have the same strength. Then use your BallistaDeploy: Damage an Enemy and up to 3 other random Enemies with the same Power by 1. Fresh Crew: Repeat the Deploy ability. e to shoot enemy units and Kaedweni Siege PlatformDeploy: Return a Machine Ally to your Hand and immediately play it again. Crewmen 1. s to bounce them back and do it again. Always try to put your Ballistae adjecent to as many Crewman units as possible. reaver scouts can help you fishing for additional copies of whatever you need. Play weather removal or things like ScorchDestroy all the Highest Units. when there is a good opportunity.

Round 2: Bleed out your opponent, make him play as many cards as possible and play ThalerDeploy: Draw the top 2 cards from your Deck. Keep 1 and shuffle the other back. to generate card advantage.

Round 3: Play VillentretenmerthAfter 3 turns, at the start of your turn, Destroy all the Highest Units on the Board. so that he triggers after the opponent has played his last card. You are garantueed to have Bloody BaronIf this Unit is in your Deck at the end of the Round, place it on top. Whenever an Enemy is Destroyed during a Round while this Unit is in your Deck, Boost it by 1. in your hand now, so play him as well and hopefully he has enough points to win you the game.

Keep in mind that this how it is supposed to turn out in an ideal world, but game rarely turn out exactly how we want them to. So you definitely have to adapt to what the enemy plays and don’t rigorously insist on keeping the schedule mentioned above. Combos

The deck is centered around using the Crewman tag of your units to use the deploy ability of your BallistaDeploy: Damage an Enemy and up to 3 other random Enemies with the same Power by 1. Fresh Crew: Repeat the Deploy ability. multiple times. Just by playing it next to a Kaedweni SergeantDeploy: Boost by 1 this Unit and all Bronze Loyal Units with the same Power in your Hand, Deck or on your side of the Board. Crewmen 1. , then bouncing it back next turn with the Kaedweni Siege SupportWhenever an Ally appears, Boost it by 1. If it's a Machine, Boost it by 1 and add 1 Armor. Crewmen 1. and then replaying it between those two, you get to use the deploy of one ballista five times! 

Not only can you simply kill a lot of small units with that, you can also set up a few big targets to the same health and then use ScorchDestroy all the Highest Units. (or Villen in R3) to get a massive amount of value!

All of this will generate a lot of points throughout the round and also buff Bloody BaronIf this Unit is in your Deck at the end of the Round, place it on top. Whenever an Enemy is Destroyed during a Round while this Unit is in your Deck, Boost it by 1. so that you have a very strong finisher in the last round.

Card alternatives

Some of the cards in the deck heavily depend on the matchups you have. Consider taking out the following cards to put in something else.

Blue Stripes ScoutDeploy: Gain 2 Armor. Deploy: Clear Weather from the row on your side. Crewmen 1. when you face a lot of weather. Consider adding MardroemeSpawn Spores or Mutagen. for example when you encounter a lot of strong, boosted units, like in Nilfgaard Reveal.

Dimeritium BombChoose 3 adjacent Units (can be Golds) and Reset them. If any are Gold, Demote them first. when you face a lot of boosted units or other Radovid control decks. This card will most likely win you the game in mirror matchups. Consider adding Margarita Laux-AntilleDeploy: Reset a Unit and toggle its Lock. instead, or OcvistAfter 4 turns, at the start of your turn, Damage all Enemies by 1, return this Unit to your Hand and Transform it into Exhausted Ocvist. to create even more card advantage and help to kill the opponents stuff.
