Budget Northern Realms Strategy

The decks basic strategy are mass-buffs on the units in your hand/deck. Kaedweni SergeantDeploy: Boost by 1 this Unit and all Bronze Loyal Units with the same Power in your Hand, Deck or on your side of the Board. Crewmen 1. s are the base for this strategy. You have 11 Units that start at 3 strength in your deck. You play FoltestSpawn Foltest Deploy: Boost all Loyal Bronze and Silver Units in your Hand and Deck by 1.  first to buff everything up to 4. Then you start playing your Kaedweni Sergeants and mass-buffing a lot of the units in your deck (including themselves). Kaedweni Sergeants are not only mass-buffing units, but they also pull out Blue Stripes CommandoWhenever a different Ally with the same Power as this Unit is played, play this Unit from your Deck (1 copy max) and place it on that Ally's row. Whenever you complete a Blue Stripes Commando Trio, create 1 base copy of a Blue Stripes Commando on the bottom of your Deck. s from the deck, since they’re at the same strength all the time. It means that you’re having nice tempo on the board, you’re thinning your deck and you invest into the future all at the same time.

The biggest flaw of this strategy is ScorchDestroy all the Highest Units. or Geralt: IgniDeploy: Destroy all the Highest Units on the opposite row if that row totals 20 or more Power. . Since you produce a board with multiple units of the same strength, one card can swing the whole game. That’s why you also play Redanian Knight-ElectIf this Unit has Armor at the start of your turn, Boost Units adjacent to it by 1. Deploy: Gain 2 Armor. – the card buffs two adjacent units, but you only want to buff one. Place it on the edge to only give +1 to a single unit each turn. Then you want to play one non-Sergeant card to give your Knight-Elect time to start buffing the unit out of range. You can let’s say play Aretuza AdeptDeploy: Play a random Bronze Weather card from your Deck. and spawn Biting FrostApply Frost to a row on your opponent's side. Frost: Every turn, at the start of your turn, Damage one of the Lowest Units on the row by 2. – that’s a great value play, because most of the time your opponent either has to take a lot of damage or play Clear Skies and get behind on the tempo. After that, play more Kaedweni Sergeants, they should be safe now (as long as your Knight-Elect’s Armor didn’t go down).

With the new mulligan mechanic (you can mulligan away one card per round), it’s a good idea to keep your Temerian InfantrymanDeploy: Play all Temerian Infantrymen from your Deck on the row. for late in round 2 (if you’re going for 2-0) or round 3. You don’t have to play them right away, since it’s easy to control that you won’t have more than 1 in your hand at the same time. And they provide a huge tempo swing in round 3, you can often get them out for 18 or 21 strength.

Budget Northern Realms Upgrades

If you happen to have one of those cards, you can add it to the list instead of the starter Silvers/Golds to make it stronger. You can also prioritize one of those cards in Keg openings if you want to complement this list.

You want to keep those Silvers/Golds: DecoyReturn an Ally to your Hand, Boost it by 3 and play it. , DethmoldDeploy: Spawn Torrential Rain, Clear Skies or Alzur's Thunder. , MyrgtabrakkeDeploy: Damage Units by 2, 2 and then 1. and Philippa EilhartDeploy: Damage an Enemy by 5, then Damage random Enemies by 4, 3, 2 and 1. The same Enemy cannot be Damaged twice in a row. .

And replace the rest of them with:

Silver: Margarita Laux–Antille, SarahDeploy: Shuffle a card from your Hand (can be Gold) back into your Deck, then draw the top different card of the same color from your Deck. , ReinforcementPlay a Bronze or Silver Unit from your Deck. Shuffle the others back.

Gold: Ragh Nar RoogApply Ragh Nar Roog to all rows on your opponent's side. Ragh Nar Roog: Every turn, at the start of your turn, Damage one of the Highest Units on the row by 2. , Yennefer: The ConjurerEvery turn, at the start of your turn, Damage all the Highest Enemies by 1. , Geralt: IgniDeploy: Destroy all the Highest Units on the opposite row if that row totals 20 or more Power. , Keira MetzDeploy: Spawn Quen Sign, Epidemic or Thunderbolt Potion. , Vernon RocheDeploy: Damage an Enemy by 3. If it was Destroyed, Spawn a Blue Stripes Commando on a random row and repeat the Deploy ability (one time only). , RenewResurrect a Gold Unit from your Graveyard.

I really like your deck! I used it to level up from about lvl6 and climb to rank 9 on the ladder. It is a really good deck for beginners.
It even inspired me to make my first YouTube video ever about it 🙂 I have used a cheaper version of it though (without Myrgtabrakke and Dethmold). This way the total crafting cost is only 650 scraps and everyone can play it!

I will give you attribution in the video description, if that’s okay with you 😉

Great deck went 7-1-0 with it and the tie was mostly due to a misplay on my part.

Hi, I’m a fresh beginner in Gwent, and won’t probably try this deck before quite some time, but I wonder: what if you play Henselt instead of Foltest?

Henselt summoning the sergeant’s trio would boost your unit’s by 2 and would also trigger the blue stripes commandos trio. Of course you will now be a tempting target for scorch, but you still have thinned your deck by 4 and boosted your units by 2, and you’ll have an open field for the upcoming temeran infantrymen plus the new blue stripes commando you’ve just created.
